NEET exams held today in Goa
Panaji (Goa): Around 2000 Goa based students on Sunday answered the national eligibility-cum-entrance test (NEET) from various centres across the state.
NEET is being held this year not only for admissions to medical and dental programmes, but also for homeopathy and ayurveda courses.
The central Board of Secondary Education schools of Kendriya Vidyalayas in Goa served as centres for NEET. The students from neighbouring areas like Karwar and Sindhudurg also appeared for the examination from Goa centres.
The thee-hour long paper comprised questions from physics, chemistry and biology.

Goa to continue with five-and-half hours of schooling
Goa: The schedule of the new academic year 2017-18 by and large remains unchanged as the education department has decided to continue with five and half hours of schooling on a daily basis and 200 instructional days all through the year.
The discretionary holidays have been increased from eight in 2016-17 to 10 in the coming academic year, while the total working days including the examination days from primary to higher secondary schools have been reduced to 234 in comparison with 236 in the last academic year.

HSSC Results declared today
Continuing with its annual trend, the girls once again outshone boys in the HSSC exmaination results declared on Thursday, that saw 88.77 percent students clearing the crucial exam.
Announcing the results, the chairman of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary J R Rebello said that of the total 16,521 students who answered the exam, 14,666 have cleared it with a total passing percentage of 88.77 percent.
The girls registered a handsome 90.68 percent of pass percentage while boys stood at 86.69 percent.
The passing percentage stream wise is- Science 88.12%, arts: 87.53%, Com: 96.70%, Voc: 88.15%.

Govt should revive old institutions: Sahni
Internationally-acclaimed political scientist, Prof Varun Sahni, who is currently serving as Goa University (GU) Vice Chancellor has said the government is ensuring strengthening public universities pan-India considering that a meager 10 percent students are availing public education. Speaking at the Goa’s lone university’s 29th convocation, Sahni said that by many indicators, public universities are facing tough times.

Goa Uni organises annual Placement Fair on April 28
The Goa University in association with the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry will be organising its Annual Placement Fair on Thursday, May 4, 2017, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm in the Arts faculty block of Goa University.
Final year Post Graduate students of Goa University and students of Under Graduate degree colleges studying BA, BSc, BCom, BCA, BBA, BSc(Computer Science) Seeking campus placement are invited for the placement fair.

HSSC results on April 27
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education will announce the results of HSSC examination on April 27 at 10.30 am. This is for the very first time that the results are announced much in advance.
As many as 18,000 students had appeared for HSSC examination which was conducted from March 1 to March 22 for general stream, while vocational stream the examination was held from March 2.

Parrikar government for status quo on MOI issue
Even as its constituted advisory committee on the Medium of Instruction (MOI) issue is yet to conclude its study on the contentious issues, the Manohar Parrikar-led coalition government is expected to maintain a status-quo on the matter in its common minimum programme (CMP) document- which would be released on the Statehood Day-May 30.
