VINAYA WALAVALKAR-MANTRI

Namaskar Goenkar!

This time let’s discuss about drama, its strength, language and culture. You can’t separate art and culture from drama. Art, Entertainment, Culture and Language are inseparable; they are virtually embedded in each other deeply. I would rather say language attains more important position amongst them. For instance, you might create a perfect art form in that language but if the audience does not understand the language itself then everything is useless. If we talk about the language, in the modern world we are witnessing the trend of feeling greatness in having command over English. Socially it is…

THE APPARENT DOWNFALL OF ANIMATED TV IN INDIA

PALASH VOLVOIKAR

While we all love to watch live action television, we cannot deny that, as kids, our fondness of television began with animated series. The repeated Facebook posts from the so called “90’s kids”, full of nostalgia about how the cartoon shows they had as kids were much better in comparison to what airs on TV now, can hardly be called baseless. It is true, the animated series area, as we’re seeing it in India at least, has taken a hit. I can’t vouch for the animated TV before my own time, but the 90s and early 2000s had…

The heart-warming journey of a father & son, RINGAN

  • admin
  • June 1, 2017

National award winning film, Ringan’s poster was recently launched on social media platforms and it speaks in so many layers.

In this poster we can see a farmer and his son standing distraught near a wall, staring into the abyss. While right in the corner of the poster we can see an idol of Lord Vitthala standing with his hands emphatically on his waist.

The question that is troubling both father and son, appears as the tag-line in the poster – “Ringan, sutta tute na mauli” – which means, “How will this vicious circle ever break, Oh Lord?”

This father-son duo feels…

Team TNV’s Vinaya Walavalkar Mantri introduces us to yet another renowned personality from the field of theatre and films. This time she in conversation with Bhimrao Mude a young film and theatre director from Mumbai.

Q. How did you get associated with theatre?
As a young school boy we had organised a play for our annual gathering, unfortunately the play never happened. When I was in college one of my teachers selected me for a play and introduced me to the drama group of our college called the ‘Natyamandal.’ In my first ever play I was appreciated by…

Is Indian television missing out?

  • admin

PALASH VOLVOIKAR
India has its idea of online streaming in a bunch as well. Hotstar is one of the very few online platforms that have (somewhat) taken off and all it has done till now, is show us the same content as the normal TV does. It did manage to revive one of the best received quality television shows in the history of Indian TV, Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai, but it will need to keep going at making original content and ensuring that it is different and better than what mainstream TV has to offer, like how TVFPlay seems to be…

Vinaya Walavalkar – Mantri

I have not only been active in the field of theater but also been interested in watching dramas and movies. A few months ago, I happened to watch a drama in Mumbai by the name of Mughal-E-Azam, inspired by the famous movie having the same name. The drama is produced by (NCPA) National Centre for Performing Arts – a very reputed institute. Just like the movie, the drama also had grandeur. Everything about the drama was worth a watch. The lights, sound, costumes, music were mind blowing. Added to this was the live singing by the…

Why aren’t horror films scary anymore?

  • admin

Palash Volvoikar

Horror has always been a very exciting genre, and more so when it comes to films. The film medium has succeeded in doing justice to the horror stories we have all read and heard of, because when it comes to this particular genre, seeing is better than reading. While horror films have successfully spooked the public for years, the genre isn’t doing so well anymore. Now, you could disagree with me on this by putting forth a few points that I am sure you’re thinking about, but I am talking about the ability of a film to scare…
