Panaji (Goa) The uncertainty over the fate of several hundred panchayat members in Goa are looming large after State government claiming that the association which has given them the certificate of belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) is unregistered.
Several panchayat members who have got elected from the OBC reserved wards have submitted the certificate from Association of Christian Backward Classes to prove their reserved status. The certificates are accepted by the authorities which has allowed them to contest in the reserved wards.
Now District Registrar has claimed that the association has not renewed its registration and hence it stands unregistered.

Panaji (GOA): The Goa Foundation (GF), whistleblower in the illegal mining case, has petitioned the Union Ministry of Mines constituted Dr KV Rao Committee recommending that the Inter-generational Equity should be the core of the new National Mineral Policy (NMP), which is been drafting following Supreme Court directives.
The GF has been invited to present its view before the Committee at its third meeting on Sep 26. The committee is been constituted to revisit the NMP 2008 and draft a new policy by December.

IMD WITHDRAWS RED ALERT; WARNS FISHERMEN FROM VENTURING INTO SEA
Panaji (Goa) The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) today withdrew the extreme rainfall warning for the Goa coast, but has directed fishermen not to venture into sea for next 24 hours due to rough sea condition.
IMD has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall for the State for next two days.
“Monsoon has been vigorous over Goa during last 24 hours and in the present conditions it is expected that it will continue for next two days,” IMD said.

ERONET APP FOR ONLINE VOTER REGISTRATION LAUNCHED
Panaji (GOA) ERONET- a new portal introduced by the Election Commission of India (ECI) to facilitate voters to get registered for voter ID and necessary changes like deletion in the photo identity card, was launched in Goa today.
The Chief Electoral Office (CEO) also set the ball rolling for special summary revision- 2018 across all its assembly constituencies, with reference to January 1, 2018 as qualifying date. January 8, 2018 will be the final publication date of the updated database.
The web-based facility was launched by Goa Governor Dr Mridula Sinha .

CONGRESS WANTS GOVT TO HAND OVER BEACH CLEANING SCAM TO CBI
PANAJI (GOA) Congress party today demanded that Government should immediately hand over the multi-crore beach cleaning scam to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further probe as recommended by the Goa Lokayukta in its report, last week.
Addressing reporter, Congress general secretary Adv Yatish Naik demanded that government should immediately hand over the case to CBI and initiate action against all the officials of the tourism department as named in the complaint, included then Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar.
