Goa’s Anura Prabhu Desai has reached the Women’s singles as well as doubles semifinals at the All India Senior Ranking Badminton Tournament 2017 at Bangalore.

Anura, who is seeded second, beat Shruti Mundada 21-16, 21-17 to reach the semis where she will meet Telengana’s Vrushali G. In Women’s doubles quarters,

Anura partnering Haritha M. H. 21-17, 8-21, 21-19. They will now be up against top seeds Agna Anto and Sneha Santhilal for a place in the finals.

 Iran blanked Costa Rica 3-0 to top Group C with an all-win record in the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 on Friday.

Iran had already secured a place in the Round of 16 with wins over Guinea and Germany.

In their final group engagement at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the Asian nation scored through Mohammed Ghobeishavi (25th minute), Taha Shariati (29th) and Mohammad Sardari (89th) to top the group with nine points from three matches.

MARGAO: Goalkeeper Ricardo Montenegro’s heroic effort under the bar helped Costa Rica hold Guinea to a 2-2 draw in a Group C match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup on Tuesday.
Costa Rica, who played a waiting game keeping their defence compact, took the lead in the 26th minute through Yecxy Jarquin.
Guinea dominated the match creating several scoring changes but were denied by rival keeper Ricardo Montenegro until Fondje Toure restored parity in the 30th minute.

FIFA U-17 WORLD CUP: IRAN UPSET GERMANY TO ENTER KNOCK-OUT ROUND

MARGAO: Iran stunned Germany 4-0 in the biggest upset of the tournament so far to qualify for the knock-out round of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017 on Tuesday.

Iran, who controlled the proceedings throughout the Group C match, scored through Younes Delfi (6th and 42th), Allahyar Sayyad (49th) and Vahid Namdari (75th) at the Nehru Stadium here.

Nothing went right for the Germans who were disorganised in the midfield and they could not trouble the rival defence. Their defence also kept a lot of space which the Iranians exploited with repeated forays.

Fatorda (Goa) Iran opened their 2017 FIFA U17 World Cup with a 3- 1 win over Guinea in their Group C game at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda.
All goals were scored in the second half with Sayyad Allahyar ( 59′) and Sharifi Mohammad ( 70′ pen) while Fandje Toure ( 90+ 1′) reduced the margin of defeat.
Guinea’s Toure had already initiated his celebration but had to refrain himself after his header off Soumah Ibrahima’s cross from the right crashed off the post in the 15th minute.

FATORDA (Goa): Iran overpowered 10-man Guinea in a Group C encounter to enjoy a splendid start to their campaign at the FIFA U-17 World Cup here on Saturday.

 MARGAO: A late goal by substitute Noah Awuku lifted Germany to a 2-1 win over Costa Rica in their opening match of the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017on Saturday.

Germany were more organised in attack and dominated play in halves, creating quite a few scoring opportunities. The European heavyweights scored through Jan-Fiete Arp (21st minute) and Awuku (89th).

They could have won by a bigger margin had it not been for some erratic shots in front of the goal.
