EIC TO CHECK QUALITY OF FISH ENTERING GOA

Minister Vishwajit Rane, on Thursday, informed that Central authority for certification, Export Inspection Council (EIC), will now test the fish, and eatables like fruits, vegetables and milk which enter Goa from neighbouring states.

Health and FDA minister Vishwajit Rane said the EIC will test fish, milk, fruits and vegetables before certifying them.

“The EIC will coordinate with Food Safety & Standard Authority of India (FSSAI), Quality Council of India (QCI) and Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) to develop a protocol for testing food products to detect harmful chemicals,” Vishwajit Rane said.

Rane further said that the proposed EIC laboratory will be set up at a cost of Rs 15 crore and will be funded by the central government.
